QEEG
Q1. What is QEEG ?
Quantitative EEG or brain mapping is an advanced neuro-diagnostic technology that measures the different frequencies of electrical activity generated by the brain
Q2. What will QEEG tell us?
These electrical frequencies called delta, theta, alpha, beta provide the clinician with information concerning the active state of various regions of the brain.
Q3. How long are the consultations?
The examination takes between 45min to 1 hour to compete
Q4. What is involved in a consultation?
24 electrodes are placed on very specific locations on the head with a small amount of conductive gel. After the patient is prepared a series of two 5 minute recordings will be performed with eyes open and closed
Q5. How will QEEG align with the other services?
After completion the data can then be analysed and compared to a database of “symptom free” normal individuals. Brain maps have been shown to reveal different patterns in various neurological disorders ranging from Migraine, ADHD and Epilepsy, to Schizophrenia, Bipolar and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Q6. How Many QEEGS do I need?
A QEEG is usually only performed once but may be repeated for comparison purposes after a course of treatment
Q7. Will health insurance cover me?
Not at this stage.
Q8. Are there any side effects to a QEEG?
There are no side effects to undergoing the procedure. It is safe and non-invasive.
Q9. How long will it take for results to be returned to the referring doctor?
It usually takes up to two weeks for the QEEG report to be sent to the referring doctor
